
Wetlands International, with funding from the Australian Government’s Natural Heritage Trust for 2006-08, is embarking on a project designed to support NRM regional bodies and wetland managers across Australia in the management of important wetlands. This project forms part of Wetland Management Solutions – a new partnership of wetland practitioners and experts working together for better management of Australian wetlands, with a particular focus on nation-wide delivery of training and support options that address regional and local issues and needs.
The project will run over three years from early 2006, and has the following aims:

The focus of the project will be on nationally important wetlands – those listed in the Directory of Important Wetlands in Australia, Ramsar Sites and sites of international importance for migratory shorebirds. At least 12 NRM regions will be supported, with emphasis on remote areas of Australia, especially the rangelands.
